These seeking to have a dip in Berlin’s well-known heated outside swimming pools this summer season might be in for a cold shock.

Water temperatures on the German capital’s 16 gas-heated lidos – or Sommerbäder – might be stored two levels celsius decrease than regular.

The choice to decrease the temperature was made by the swimming pools’ state-funded operator, Berliner Bäder-Betriebe (BBB), which stated it was “doing its bit” in the direction of lowering German reliance on Russian gasoline.

Talking to the media, a spokesperson for BBB stated: “Now we have made this determination as a result of we wished to make a contribution to the discount of gasoline imports.”

It isn’t the one political gesture made by public leisure facility operators within the capital metropolis since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February.
